242 controversial speech topics
Argumentative speech topic suggestions to help students evaluate ideas, to think through their pros and cons, and to debate.
Here’s a large collection of deliberately provocative speech topics - ones intended to trigger strong responses.
For instance:
“Being poor is not a crime, a character flaw, or a judgment from God.”
“All people are equal, but some are more equal than others is a truth we need to accept.”
“Pink-washing everything (clothing, toys, sports gear...) for girls is nothing but cynical marketing.”
My intent was to provide material for students that would lead them to explore the heady mix of passion, belief, fact and fiction a genuinely controversial topic generates.
The hope is that through systematic investigation, they will begin to learn to discriminate and recognize their own biases.
The topics are split across four broad groups: food, babies and children, teenagers, and society.

I hope they’re useful to you.
Until next time,
Susan
PS. As I said last week, and I’ll say next, if you have ideas for topics you’d like to see covered in this newsletter, or if you’d like to share an article on some aspect of public speaking, or a speech of your own, please get in touch. Either reply to this email or contact me through the form on my about me page on my website. I’d love to hear from you!
