Impromptu speaking - aka table topics

Table topics is Toastmaster International parlance for all things impromptu speaking. It's the umbrella term they use to refer to the portion of the meeting set aside to focus solely on developing impromptu speaking skills i.e., a table topics session, as well as the topics themselves, the speakers and their speeches.

To some, their method of teaching public speaking may seem overly structured: stiflingly formulaic.* However, I know from experience it works very well.

PS. * While there are comprehensive sets of ‘how-tos’, ‘what-tos’, ‘when-tos’, ‘why’, ‘who’ and ‘where tos’ covering every aspect of Toastmasters there are still big differences between the ‘feel’ or culture of clubs. They come in many ‘flavors’. Some are more conservative. Some are more focused on acquiring skills for leadership, while others are in-house or company clubs. There are community clubs, college clubs, clubs in prisons…

If you want to find one that’s a good fit for yourself, use the club finder. If there’s a number, arrange a visit to several of them to see which one suits you best.
